Charminar House Information

Tucked along NW Cornell Road in Portland, Charminar House offers a warm, flavorful escape into Indian cuisine that feels both comforting and thoughtfully prepared. The location at 13551 NW Cornell Rd is easy to reach for locals in the Cedar Mill area, and it has quietly built a reputation through steady word-of-mouth and consistently positive reviews.

Walking in, the atmosphere is relaxed and unpretentious, with simple décor that lets the food take center stage. It’s the kind of place where you can settle in for a casual dinner without any fuss, yet still feel like you’re getting something special. During my visit, the dining room had a steady flow of regulars picking up takeout orders, which usually says a lot about a restaurant’s reliability.

The menu leans heavily into classic Indian dishes, with a noticeable focus on Hyderabadi flavors. The biryani, in particular, stands out as a signature item. Served aromatic and layered with spices, it arrives steaming hot with tender pieces of meat and perfectly cooked basmati rice. It’s not overly greasy or heavy, which can sometimes be an issue elsewhere. The chicken tikka masala is another crowd favorite, rich and creamy without being overpowering, pairing especially well with their soft, freshly made naan.

Vegetarian options are also well represented, from paneer-based curries to lentil dishes that feel hearty rather than like an afterthought. The spice levels can be adjusted, and the staff is genuinely helpful when guiding first-time diners through the menu. Service overall feels attentive but not intrusive, with orders coming out at a comfortable pace.

One thing that stands out from repeated customer feedback is consistency. Reviews across platforms often mention that the flavors remain dependable from visit to visit, which isn’t always guaranteed in smaller neighborhood spots. While the ambiance isn’t upscale or particularly modern, it doesn’t need to be-the focus here is clearly on delivering authentic, satisfying food.

Prices are reasonable for the portion sizes, making it a solid choice whether you’re dining in or grabbing takeout after a long day. Parking is generally manageable in the surrounding area, which adds to the convenience of the location.

What People's Say About Place

A Hidden Gem for a Flavorful, Family-Friendly Buffet! If you are looking for an authentic Indian meal that doesn’t overwhelm your palate with heavy spice, Charminar House is a fantastic choice. We visited for the buffet and were thoroughly impressed with several aspects of the experience: Early Birds Welcome: One of the best things about this spot is that they open early, making it a perfect destination for those who want to beat the lunch rush or have an early family meal. Great Buffet Variety: The spread is impressive. From crispy appetizers and fresh naan to a wide array of curries and a dedicated "Sweet" section (the vermicelli kheer looked delicious!), there is something for everyone. Balanced Flavors: The highlight for us was the taste. The food is flavorful and authentic, but not too much masala. It’s well-seasoned without being greasy or overly heavy, which is hard to find in many buffets. Kid-Friendly Atmosphere: The restaurant is spacious and welcoming for families. Because the spice levels are manageable and there are plenty of mild options like rice, naan, and noodles, it’s very kid-friendly. Modern Touches: We even noticed a service robot helping out, which is always a hit with the kids! Bottom Line: Whether you’re a fan of Tandoori chicken or looking for great vegetarian options, Charminar House delivers quality food in a clean, bright, and friendly environment. We will definitely be back!

Super amazing, authentic Indian cuisine. The best Indian food we have ever had. We got the shrimp pepper masala, chicken tikka masala and the chicken korma. The service was great too!

I had a wonderful experience at Charminar House. From the moment I walked in until the moment i left. There was in incense burning by the door and the person working pointed out all the vegetation options for me when i told them i was vegetarian. Extremely nice service and extremely tasty food! I clean plate clubed it and even went back for seconds. The Naan was cooked to perfection and the tofu curry was my favorite!! Would highly recommend this place!!

They opened this place about 2 years ago, and I've been wanting to go here since. Finally got a chance to go. And I was not disappointed. In fact, I quite liked the experience. I had the paneer butter masala, garlic naan and the Kerala style paratha. It was all excellent. Great location, friendly staff, good ambience, good value for money and very good taste I will definitely be going again.

First time tried food there - the Mango Lassi was delicious. The Dosa and chutney were fantastic, but the Sambhar was a bit disappointing. However, there was a potato bhaji that had amazing flavor and spices, although I was unsure about the freshness of the potatoes, so I was a bit hesitant to eat it. Thankfully, nothing bad has happened so far.

A new place, definitely an upgrade. Nice menu, the wait after ordering was a bit long, but not bad. The food was delicious. Perfect spice level, and ample amounts. Definitely two meals. I will be back!

Got takeout from here for the first time. Ordered the goat vindaloo, special chicken biriyani (boneless) and vade. Pretty good food overall- I went with medium spice but definitely recommend high spice for regular curry eaters. Great food!

Great place to eat some authentic indian food. Love the atmosphere, service, and food. Thank you, Pratha, for your service.
